Job Description

JOB PURPOSE: Capably manage day-to-day quality control issues and maintain standards for quality in the processing of dry mix bakery products. Serve as a member of the quality assurance team and perform various tests and audits on raw materials and finished goods, as well as on the processing and packaging lines.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Tests blended product samples for performance to NWF quality standards using appropriate sensory and/or analytical tools
  • Determines blended product acceptability based on experience with product, specifications, knowledge of customer and consideration of food safety/labeling issues
  • Conducts label verification prior to run
  • Accurately records observations and test results, and follows prescribed lab testing procedures, including the use of all QC equipment
  • Audits formula, bills of material and responds to information results
  • Communicates information using NWF voice mail and Protocol
  • Understands and follows hold downgrade rework procedures and management of rework, material disposition process
  • Exercises basic troubleshooting, problem solving and decision making skills to resolve quality issues
  • Audits and interprets clean down sheets, HACCP sheets, set up pallets and other documentation supporting process and packaging control
  • Conducts metal detector challenges and magnet checks
  • Evaluates sifter tailing
  • Conducts Environmental Swabbing
  • Pulls Microbiological & Allergen Samples
  • Serves as an effective resource to the manufacturing team and other internal customers regarding QC processes
  • Participates in quarterly shift rotation to maintain department skill set across all shifts
  • Works overtime and vacation coverage on off shifts as needed
  • Perform special projects as assigned
  • Willing and able to learn and develop to support additional roles in department

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:

•          Proficient in Microsoft office programs; familiar with Windows software

•          Experience with AS400 / & Lotus preferred; yet not required

•          Strong math, reading, sensory, and oral/written communication skills

•          Commitment to quality

•          Detail-oriented, capable of complete and accurate documentation and record keeping

•          Ability to work without direct supervision and to prioritize activities under pressure

•          Good troubleshooting, problem solving and decision making skills

•          Capable of meeting the physical and mental requirements established for the position



Job Requirements

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Applied Science or Bachelor’s Degree in a science-related field preferred but not required
  • Ability to pass Employment, Comprehension and Math tests; Attention to detail
  • Good Communication skills
  • 2 years food experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • Hours: 2:00 PM - 10:00 PM
