Job Description

The Senior Scientist for Food Safety Supply Chain is responsible for implementing and coordinating all risk assessment activities pertaining to NWF product supply chains to proactively mitigate any food safety risks to NWF and its customers.    The position will require a thorough analysis of the global ingredient supply chain network and the development of the required processes to ensure quality and food safety programs meet NWF’s requirements for achieving high specified standards.

  • Analyze the risk and vulnerability assessment of each raw material to continuously identify potential risks associated with product safety, legality and quality.
  • Monitor trends and emerging issues within the global ingredient supply chain quality and food safety business environments to keep Newly Weds Foods informed, involved, and on the leading edge of such issues.
  • Be the primary contact for investigating raw material issues (i.e. microbiological, physical, chemical) with suppliers, 3rd party laboratories, trade associations, etc. to implement safety measures within the supply chain.
  • Establish parameters for acceptance applied to NWF ingredient specifications and COA’s based on raw material category risk assessments and emerging issues within the ingredient supply chain.
  • Streamline and manage the global receiving inspection program conducted by all NWF divisions upon receipt of in-bound ingredients.
  • Develop, implement, and manage the global ingredient surveillance program for all in-bound ingredients by communicating testing requirements with suppliers and coordinating testing at source of manufacturing by approved 3rd party laboratories.
  • Enforce supplier expectation requirements based on food safety supply chain measures and compliance activities.
  • Augment the global supplier approval program to be in compliance with the new FSMA regulations and FDA expectations (FSVP).
  • Manage and conduct domestic & global supply chain risk assessments and supplier audits.
  • Troubleshoot and bring resolution to related issues raised by departments such as operations, quality, R&D, purchasing, and sales.
  • Participate in food industry forums and trade groups
  • Perform duties as assigned
  • Requires approximately 40% travel, some international

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in food science or related discipline
  • 10+ years of Project Management experience in the food industry, with significant experience working and organizing global ingredient supply chain quality & food safety programs for a global or international food company.
  • Requires a broad knowledge of Quality Assurance, Research & Development, and/or Technical Services.
  • Strong analytical abilities, problem solving, and organizational skills
  • Proven Interpersonal Skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Excellent computer skills in word, excel, Lotus, AS400 or similar manufacturing IS, and web based platforms
